Surprises At Prom

Surprises at Prom

I am a 16 yr old graduating senior of Math, and science HS. Not only am I shy, but I am very self conscience about my frail, pale, and skinny body, all throughout hs, I had to wear layers of clothing, pants on top of thermals, and jeans which gave me some sort of curvy bulge in my back area, my shirts are always way to big, and even though Abercrombie is probably the only store that carries a 00, i had to shop in the kids Abercrombie because the adult section was way to big for me. Mind you prom was the biggest event of my life, and yes I do have a Bf, as weird as it might sound, since I sound like I would not appeal to anyone, my Bf peter things my fragile body is so IN as he calls it, lol. But shopping for a dress was difficult and that is why I am writing this letter.

To all those girls that are as tiny as I am, and want to look sexy on prom finding that perfect dress is one in a million, it will cost you more to get it altered than to just have one custom made, and so my quest for a dress began, I went to every store in NYC, and then ended up finding my perfect dress in CT. As soon as I got to nordstroms that was it, I saw my Jessica Rabbit, dress, long, RED, and SEXIFIED, just how I wanted to look. I didn’t even look at the price I just bought it.

My Bf is not from my school so he had no idea what he was in for, when I told him that I am one of the shyest kids around, not only does no one know who I am in school, but they probably thought I was apart of the white walls that came with the school, since I blend in so well.

Well the night of prom finally arrived and peter was at my house already, and I was having the most severe panic attack of my life, because I was so nervious to show off my undeveloped body to peter and to the entire world, and so I breathed in some fresh air and went down those stairs. Everyone all at once gasped for air, they were amazed at how elegant yet sexy I looked, as I was coming down the stairs I glanced at my reflection in a picture frame and I was amazed at what a lil makeup could do. Me and peter said our goodbyes and went off in our horse and carrage, that night I felt like Cinderella.

I finally arrived at prom, and when I walked out, the people that were chit chating away in front of the hall were shocked. Peter grabbed by hand and escorted me in, Let me tell you, when I got inside through those doors, I felt like a princess, nothing could bother me, NOTHING! Everyone just stood there and started whispering to themselves, because they never seen me this open with my body. I was on cloud 9, and it felt good. Me and peter danced all night and even though I wasn’t prom Queen, I def was in peters eyes and that’s all that mattered!1

I never danced before my prom. Sure, I went to dances, but I never actually danced with anyone. I just hung out on the sides, talked to my friends and watched the other kids dance. I wasn’t that interested in changing that either. There was this girl that I really liked so I asked her to go to the prom with me and she said yes. I was happy about that. But what if she expected me to dance with her? I didn’t know what I would do. I was hoping she wouldn’t, but she was a hot girl. If I didn’t dance with her, someone else would.

I went to prom with her and our friends in a limo that seated twelve. During the meal, I didn’t really stress cause no one was really dancing. But in between the salad and the main course everyone started dancing with eachother, and she asked me to dance with her. I said ok and I took her hand. She led me on to the floor looking for a spot we could dance. She shouted to me that she didn’t really know how to dance, but didn’t care. That made me feel a lot more comfortable. I danced with her and I liked it. –Ben Kaplan Haddam-Killingworth High SchoolHigganum, Connecticut Class 06

My prom could have been a total disaster if it hadn’t been for my friends. I’ve been planning my prom since I was a freshman. I had this box in my closet with every prom magazine I could lay my hands on. Six months before the prom I went on a diet and a few weeks before the big day, you could grate cheese on my abs. I had the hottest date in school, captain of basketball team, who asked me by bombarding my locker with dozens of white roses. My limousine was all booked. I was going with my 3 best friends and their dates. We even had plans to dance at the Copacabana after the party was over.

The day of the prom arrived. I iced my eyes before school to make them less puffy and I moisturized my skin. I finished the half day of school, and my girls and I drove to my nail and hair appointments. By the end, I had the picture of my hair, and the perfect French manicure with hand painted designs.

That’s when it happened. We were just pulling out of the space on the street when another car rear ended us! My face hit the dashboard…and after my girls exchanged insurance information with the guy that hit us, I finally had a chance to look in the mirror. There it was. A giant black eye!!!

I wanted to die. I’ve been planning prom night for what feels like my whole life. Now, I had a dream date, a dream dress, and a shiner the size of Texas. My BFF, Emily, rushed me back to her place, put a zillion pounds of cover-up on my eye, and then we dressed for our dates.

“What happened to your eye?” Markus asked me when he saw me. I was so ashamed; I didn’t know how to answer. Emily answered for me.

“This &%$#! Rear-ended my car and Katie got smacked up.”

Markus leaned down and spoke to me with a conspiratorial tone, “I’ve never seen anyone look so sexy with a busted eye.”

It turned out to be the prom of my dreams—Jennifer Sorensen Rutherford High School Rutherford, NJ Class 02

My date and I decided to go as just friends. We were going to go in a group, but then we would have had to throw in for the limo. That’s where our problem was. We had two choices, we could either go in a limo or we could do the after prom thing. Rich (My date) and I decided that we’d rather dance till the sun came up than pay 400 dollars that we didn’t have to spend five minutes in the lap of luxury.

The only problem is we didn’t have a ride. How were we going to get there? Only a week before prom and we still had no ride. My sister finally agreed to drive me and Rich to where the prom was.

Though we live in the Bronx we decided to go to the Copacabana for our after prom with 10 of our friends. Rich and I split everything right down the middle. During the last dance at the prom, Rich tells me he’s had feelings for me since freshman year…and didn’t know how to say. I was so shocked I just began to cry, of course ruining my make-up. He kissed me even though I looked like a raccoon!

After the prom, and after I headed to the ladies to fix my make-up, Rich and I danced all night long at the Copacabana. By the end of the night, we were a couple. –Bianca Morales-South Bronx HS-Class 01

I’m not ugly. I’m really not. I’m a little chubby, I admit that, but not ugly. For my prom I just couldn’t find a date. I really wanted to. But the time just rolled by and no one asked me. I didn’t ask anyone. It ended up like this: my friend mark and his date Rose, my friend Wendy and her date Doug, and me. I wasn’t exactly happy about it. But at least I was going. And I was going with friends.

I really didn’t want to miss my prom night. I bought this dress I loved though. It was gold and it had a really intricate ribbon that twisted around my back. I was so afraid I was going to damage it.

So we get to the prom and mark and Doug take turns dancing with me! It makes me feel like I have 2 dates! Wendy and Rose kept giving me these pitying looks at the table and I that was the only thing that ruined my night. Other than that, I had a really, really good time.

After the limo dropped of us at our houses, the Wendy decided it would be a nice idea to hit the Huck, a local diner and our favorite hang out. There we sat in our gowns, drinking coffee and talking about our future. The next week, Mark came up to me after class and told me that he would have had a much better time bringing me.–Darla Vidal-Union High School-Union, New Jersey-Class 04

My prom was off the hook! Minus all the bumps in the rood and obstacles that I had to go through to get to prom, No one will ever have another prom like I did. So here’s my story, I was a graduating senior of Laurence H.S, class 2001, and had to make some extra money on the side, so I became a promoter and sold tickets to after prom parties. That year I ended up making $12,000 just by selling tickets to Laurence H.S, Lynbrook H.S, and G.W. Hewlett H.S. Not only did I get 1,000 local friends to come to my after prom event which would be held at the Sound Factory, in the city, but I had the hottest girl around my arm and by my side through out the entire prom, but don’t think it was all fun and games and as simple as you think, oh no, I had to really get myself out of a ditch because two weeks before prom it was DEFINITELY NOT SMOOTH SAILING for me!

Every terrible thing that you can imagine had happened to me two weeks before my prom. My prom was on June 6th, which turned out to be a Wednesday, I was graduating from Laurence H.S and was suppose to attend not only my prom, but my Girlfriends prom, and she attended G.W. Hewlett H.S.

Wednesday June 6th was the biggest prom night of the year, and with all the preparations and planning I completely forgot that I had work that day, and could not get out of it until later that night. The plan was to make it to my Girlfriends prom the first half of the night and to make it to mine the last part of the night, and then attend the after party, but my boss at the second job that I work for, was really being an ass and needed me to work those extra few hours, and would not let me get out of work.

I ended up telling Dina that I would not be able to attend her prom, but that we would have just as much fun at mine later that night, and the girl had a conniption, and when I tell you she had a conniption, I mean things were thrown at me, glass was shattered, and I literally saw steam come out of her ears and nose, she looked like a bull all ready to CHARGE AND GO!

It wasn’t a surprise that I got called every name in the book, and then was dumped by my H.S sweetheart. That same night I was really stressed out and went over to my friend, Sofia’s house. We talked about everything, including my options for prom since now I was the single and dateless one. Sofia came up with a brilliant solution… She basically wanted me to take her to my prom, I still think it’s because she wanted to hook up with me, which we did do a lot of after the prom, but she denies it till this day, LOL.

My prom was an amazing night, I mean not only did I have the most gorgeous girl around my arm, who today is not only a model but also an actress, but me and Sofia went to prom in complete A list style, thanks to Promtime.com. They ordered us the limo, and hooked me up with an off the hook tux, they also provided me with a great after party venue at the Sound Factory in addition to a part time job promoting that didn’t interfere with my social life, school work, or my second job. I cannot be more grateful to Promtime.com for helping me achieve the most memorable prom experience of my life.

I ended up getting my X-5 limo free, because I helped book 10 limos in my school, had non alcoholic champagne with Sofia all night long, and then spend the entire night until closing at the best club for after parties, the Sound Factory. I swear I thought making out with Sofia would be the highlight of my night, because she was slamming, but I was wrong, I never ever will forget my prom night, it was by far the best time of my life. After Sound Factory, we ended up going to my house, where my parents gave us more non alcoholic champagne and Sofia later became my girlfriend. So in the long run, the lesson learned here is, that no matter how bad a situation gets, and oh my situation was pretty bad two weeks before prom, never allow things to ruin your prom. Things in the long run will eventually change for the better and you too can have the best prom experience of your life, just like I did! –David Reznik, Class of 2001- Laurence H.S – Laurence, N.Y.

I’ve was dating Adam for two years. At the same time, I’ve been thinking about dating Kyle. But since Kyle was beautiful and popular I really didn’t think I’d get a chance to date him anyway. He always had a girlfriend.

One day, in the middle of our lunch period, Adam and I start shouting at each other across the table. I don’t even remember what we were arguing about. But in the middle of everything, he just says, “Enough is enough, Jamie.” Suddenly I was single again.

Two weeks later Kyle catches up to me while I am walking home. He tells me that he just broke up with sue. I was speechless. He and I go to my house so he can discuss everything. I start asking him questions about what happened and how it happened. And he gives one word answers. Sometimes men suck.

Finally he asks me if I’d like to go to the prom with him, since neither one of us have a date now. I say of course I’d like to go…but then he cuts me off. He says that he’s really glad that we both broke up with our people before the prom. He left that night and didn’t kiss me. That night we didn’t start going out. We started going out after the prom. While I was in my dress, after we spent ourselves at Avalon dancing all night. He walked me up to my door and said, “Now that prom’s over, do you want to go out with me?” he didn’t kiss me until the next day when we had our official first date. –Jamie Daily – East Rutherford High School – East Rutherford, NJ – Class 06

I got asked to prom by my best friend chuck. I really like him, but just as a friend. He wasn’t my type, but he was funny and I thought it would be fun to be with him for this night. I mean if you think about it, prom is more about the senior class having one last night together, rather than being about the dress, or the hair, or about the hooking up. At least, that’s what I like to think.

Chuck was a really considerate and really funny guy. Every time I think about him, it makes me want to smile. He was always cracking jokes and he did a lot of volunteer work, that well…it made me feel like a bad person. It’s a shame he wasn’t cuter, but just because I wasn’t into him doesn’t mean we couldn’t have a good time. I’d probably have more fun with him because the pressure wouldn’t be there. Chuck tells me he heard about this casino cruise he’d heard about and he thought that us and our friends could totally go on it after prom so we didn’t have to go home right away. It sounded like a really good idea to me. And I started to get really excited about the prospect of going to prom with my best friend.

When he picks me up for prom he looks completely transformed. Chuck cleans up really well. It’s like his acne cleared up over night. He got a hair cut. That gross long, unwashed hair out of his face really looked horrible. Since always wore baggy clothes, I never noticed how nice his shoulders were. I could feel my cheeks reddening more and more as we went through the motions of prom. As he handed me out of the limo, like a gentlemen, he actually kissed my hand! I said, “ewww…who are you?” but in my head I was thinking, am I getting a crush on my best friend? At the last dance, Chuck says, “You know I joke a lot, but you’re a great girl. I’m really lucky to have you…as a friend…”

“Just as a friend?” I ask. He looks at me puzzled, but then smiles. That night my best friend became my boyfriend. –Judith Childers-Beacon High School-NYC, New York-Class 05

I didn’t think I’d be going to prom at all! There I was a week away from prom. Tickets were going on sale in two days, and I didn’t have a date, a dress, or anything. The whole thing just kind of sneaks up on you when you’re not looking. I was applying to colleges, running on the track team, working on the school newspaper, and sure it was in the back of my mind but all of my girls were making their plans and I just thought, I’ll just think about it next week…suddenly, there it was a week away. What’s worse is that no one had even asked me. I thought I’d just think about it when someone asked, and no one did. One day, I’m killing time before track practice, stretching my calves out on the fence when one of the sophomore boys jogs up to me. We talk for a few minutes and we start talking about prom and “Do you want to go to prom with me?” just comes out of my mouth! I don’t know what came over me to just blurt it out like that. But he agrees. Well I had to rush through getting everything ready. There was no way we’d get a limo on such short notice and anyway, I don’t have a job and I didn’t think bill would be able to afford something like that with his after school job at the CVS. So I end up driving in my parents Audi.

The selection of dresses left was…well bare. Only the gross stuff was left over and I end up with a dress that is way too long and tacky. It was hot pink and gold with a slit up the back. My make up looked great though. My mom is really good at doing peoples make up and was really happy that she would be able to take pictures of her little girl. My parents take two cars over to bills house so that I could have the other car. They take pictures for like an hour and finally they let us leave.

Bill was such a good date, I can’t even tell you. He CANT DANCE a step, but that didn’t stop him from acting the complete fool…and I love him for it. After the prom, our school had one of those sponsored events, and all of our friends were going to go to that, so we did that too. He walked me to my door and kissed me at the end of the night. Something was different after that. I really began to fall for him. And that summer, we started really dating. Of course, I went to college in the fall so it ended just as quickly as it began. –Elizabeth MacDowell-Sylvania North View High School-Sylvania, Ohio-Class 06

I actually met my boyfriend at a riding competition the summer before my senior year. He doesn’t go to my school and is actually a few years older than me. I told him I wanted him to come with me to my senior prom and he suddenly got really uncomfortable with the idea. Saying that it was a little weird and what would my friends think, since our dates were always just me and him, and my friends really didn’t know him that well. But when I tell him it’s really important to me he agrees and is a really good sport about it. He says he’ll take care of the transportation.

I think he’s going to show up with two horses since Wolfeboro is a really really small town and we could totally ride over to the high school, but instead he shows up with a Bentley! I was so surprised I wanted to fall over. Then he gives me my corsage. It has a blue ribbon on it from the riding competition where we first met. Charlie and me had such a wonderful time at my prom. He was so considerate of everything I thought I would die from happiness. He actually got along well with all of my friends, too.

At the end of the night, around 3am, Charlie and I are walking around the town and we stop in the gazebo, where he tells me he loves me for the first time ever! –Meg Millar-Kingswood Regional High school-Wolfeboro, NH-Class 06

I waited for my date to pick me up for the prom for like an hour and a half. Finally, I realize he’s not coming, so my parents suggest that I call my 22 yr old cousin who lives only a few blocks away and is home from college. He agrees to take me, but says that he doesn’t have a tux, is a suit ok. Honestly, no, it wasn’t ok…but I didn’t want to miss my prom. Marty actually looked really nice in a suit, and at least I knew he wasn’t going to try anything!

He had borrowed his dad’s car, and since it was such short notice, I couldn’t really complain, could I? So he’s not really into the prom, and I wasn’t having a very good time. Everyone keeps asking me where my old date was. I had no idea, and when I saw him Monday morning, he said that his sister had gotten into a car wreck and he was in the emergency room, which is why he didn’t call. I couldn’t be mad about that. Anyway, back to the prom. Me and my cousin are sitting at the table, when one of girls who is a cheerleader comes up to the table and she says, “Marty? What are you doing here with this skank?” I turns out that my cousin had been dating high school girls at my school for a while…and not just one! I was pretty embarrassed that night, but not as embarrassed as he was when I told my mom who told his mom!–Penny Carlton-South Milwaukee High School-Milwaukee, Wisconsin-Class 06

I’m not big into romance. That doesn’t mean I’m not into boyfriends or sex. But never, not once has anyone told me they loved me. My boyfriend in high school was not the romantic type either. He was just someone I could talk to and occasionally sleep with.

He and I had a really fun relationship. We went to lots of movies, and a lot of parties.

Then when it came time for prom, we were excited to go together, because we were both not the type to take it too seriously…except for the dress. I’m still a girl after all. So he and I made plans to go to the prom in a limo with my best friend and her sleazy boyfriend. We don’t hate him, but I think he’s an ass and she is so much better than he is.

Well the night of the prom arrives and my boyfriend is just standing there being sweet as always, and all of our parents are taking pictures and embarrassing us in front of each other. He leans down to me (he’s a full foot taller than I am) and tells me that he can’t wait to get me alone. mmm….

So we’re at the prom now and it’s the middle of a slow dance. Suddenly his face grows serious, like I’ve done something wrong. “Sabrina,” he says, “Please don’t get mad…please don’t dump me…I think I’m in love with you.” I start to cry…mostly because I’m pissed. He just ruined everything. I didn’t want to get that involved with someone who is moving across the country in 3 months! But I could feel it happening to me too. After about 5 minutes of crying, we’re now out in the hall way and I haven’t said anything since he dropped the L bomb. Finally he says, “Say something.”

“I love you” is all I said back.

No we’re not still together. We broke up a while ago after he cheated on me with some skank in his freshman year, but it was the first I love you I’ve ever said –Sabrina Talbert – Coginchaug Regional High School – Durham, Connecticut 04
